The Ford 5.2L Voodoo is the highest revving, naturally aspirated production V8 ever built by an American automaker. Found exclusively in the 2015 to 2020 Shelby GT350 and GT350R, the Voodoo combines a flat plane crankshaft, forged Manley billet steel rods, a 12.0:1 compression ratio, sequential multi port fuel injection, and an 8,250 RPM redline to produce 526 horsepower at 7,500 RPM and 429 lb-ft of torque at 4,750 RPM, all with the throaty wail of a Ferrari V8 fighting an American small block.
The Voodoo shares the basic Modular V8 architecture of the 5.0L Coyote but virtually nothing else. The block has a thicker deck and revised oiling. The crankshaft is a true 180 degree flat plane (similar in design to Ferrari V8s). The connecting rods are Manley billet steel with ARP2000 bolts. The pistons are forged aluminum. The cylinder heads use larger valves and Voodoo specific port and combustion chamber design. The intake manifold is a high RPM tuned plenum. The result is a small block V8 that sounds and revs like nothing else from Detroit.
The Voodoo is found only in the GT350 (wet sump) and GT350R (dry sump on Track Pack cars). Total production was approximately 24,000 units across the GT350 and GT350R combined. After 2020, Ford discontinued the Voodoo entirely; the next 5.2 Mustang engine is the Predator (supercharged, cross plane) used in the GT500.
Verified Voodoo configurations:
| Year | Application | Sump | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2015 to 2017 | GT350 (base) | Wet sump | Standard Voodoo. Most common variant. |
| 2015 to 2017 | GT350 with Track Pack | Wet sump (with cooler) | Track Pack is mostly chassis, engine is the same. |
| 2015 to 2017 | GT350R | Dry sump | Dry sump pump, separate tank. Track focused. |
| 2018 to 2020 | GT350 (base, refreshed) | Wet sump | Minor refinements. Same core spec. |
| 2018 to 2020 | GT350R | Dry sump | Same dry sump as earlier GT350R. |
| Aftermarket | Aluminator XS Crate | Wet sump | 10.5:1 compression for boost. Forged pistons specific. |
| The 2018 to 2020 Voodoo benefited from minor calibration and assembly refinements but is mechanically very close to the 2015 to 2017 unit. Either generation works for replacement in any GT350. |

The Voodoo was never offered in any other production vehicle. Swap candidates: S550 Mustang chassis (2015 to present), classic Mustang restomod, Cobra replica, kit car. The Voodoo bolts to the Modular V8 bell housing pattern (Tremec TR-3160 6-speed manual is the factory pairing on GT350; the Tremec TR-9070 dual clutch was never offered with Voodoo).
Not a GT350 owner but want a Voodoo for a swap? Call (240) 301-0095 with your project. We confirm bell housing, oil sump plan, harness, and ECU before shipping.

A documented used OEM Voodoo from a known donor (low mileage GT350 or GT350R) is the only practical replacement option for most owners since Ford has discontinued the engine. Our Voodoos are compression tested, sump configuration documented, and donor mileage disclosed where available.
A factory crate Voodoo from Ford Performance (M-6007-M52) is rare, special order, and runs $14,000 plus when available. The Aluminator XS crate (FRPP) uses different pistons for forced induction and is not the same as a factory Voodoo replacement.
A built Voodoo from a specialty Ford performance shop typically runs $18,000 to $30,000 plus depending on bottom end specification. Built makes sense for a track focused GT350R or a forced induction project. For most stock GT350 replacements, a verified used OEM unit is the right path.
Mileage is documented when available from the donor vehicle. Where mileage cannot be verified, we disclose this before shipping.

I'm impressed with the quality of service from Vaz Auto Solutions. They helped me find the right 5.2 Voodoo engine for my project car. Engine arrived on time and works perfectly. Thank you!
Bought a Voodoo from Vaz to replace mine after a dropped valve killed the original at 38,000 miles. Vaz confirmed FLAT plane crank (huge for me, I was paranoid about getting shipped a Predator), 2018 wet sump unit with about 22,000 miles. Compression came back at 175 to 180 across all eight. Engine fired on the second crank at install. Cam phaser is whisper quiet. Worth every penny.
