The Nissan Altima is Nissan's mid size sedan, a perennial high volume seller in the US market. The fifth generation Altima (L33 platform) was sold from 2013 through 2018 model years, with a refresh in 2016. The L33 generation was significant because it was the first Altima to use an aluminum hood from the factory, part of Nissan's effort to reduce front end weight, improve fuel economy, and lower the center of gravity for better handling. The hood is the front body panel that covers and protects the engine compartment. On the L33, the aluminum construction reduces weight by roughly 30 percent versus the prior L32 steel hood. The hood also includes integrated aerodynamic air vents that help manage engine bay airflow, plus weatherproof gaskets that seal against moisture and debris.
Our used Nissan Altima hood is OEM aluminum alloy construction from a 2013 donor vehicle. We document the donor color before shipping, and inspect each hood for dents (aluminum dents more easily than steel and is harder to repair), hail damage, and paint condition. Hood weight is 50 to 60 lbs depending on trim.
Aluminum hoods like the L33 Altima require specialized repair techniques. Traditional steel body shop tools and paintless dent removal often will not work on aluminum due to its different memory characteristics. If your old hood was damaged, a replacement is often more cost effective than repair, which is why our used aluminum L33 Altima hoods are popular.
