Came searching for 'Fiat 124 Spider power inverter hybrid' but I actually have a 2018 Honda Insight Hybrid (got confused with which vehicle I was buying parts for, my brother has the Fiat 124 Spider 2017 Mazda-based and we were discussing both). Vaz immediately educated me that Fiat 124 Spider has NEVER had hybrid variant in any year. They helped me identify I actually needed Honda Insight hybrid components, not Fiat parts. Came searching for hybrid component for my 2019 Modern Fiat 124 Spider (Mazda-based 1.4L MultiAir Turbo). Vaz educated me that Modern 124 Spider is pure ICE with no hybrid variant - I had been confused thinking MultiAir technology was somehow electric assist (it's not, it's just variable valve technology for the pure ICE engine). They helped me identify my actual need: ignition coil for the 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine. Sourced from Modern 124 specialty. One star off because the MultiAir terminolo
Did the Fiat 124 Spider ever have a hybrid variant?
NO, absolutely never. The Fiat 124 Spider has never had hybrid powertrain in any factory configuration during both of its production eras. Classic 124 Spider (1966-1985, US 1968-1985): pure ICE roadster with Lampredi OHC engines (1.4L through 2.0L). Modern 124 Spider (2016-2020): pure ICE collaboration with Mazda built on Mazda Miata ND platform with Fiat 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine, no hybrid variant. Even the Mazda Miata platform sister has never had factory hybrid in any of its 4 generations. The 124 Spider was never designed as hybrid vehicle.
What's a power inverter?
Power inverter is an ELECTRIC VEHICLE component that converts DC (Direct Current) power from battery to AC (Alternating Current) power needed by electric motor. Used in BEVs (battery electric vehicles) and hybrids that have electric drive motor. NOT used in pure ICE (internal combustion engine) vehicles. The Fiat 124 Spider doesn't have electric drive motor in any configuration, so doesn't have power inverter. Don't confuse 'inverter' (EV component) with 'alternator' (ICE component) which is the conventional generator on ICE vehicles charging the 12V battery and powering accessories.
I have a hybrid vehicle and need a power inverter. What do I actually have?
If you have actual hybrid vehicle needing power inverter, you have a DIFFERENT vehicle than Fiat 124 Spider. Common hybrid vehicles: Toyota Prius (most common hybrid, multiple generations), Toyota Camry Hybrid, Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, Honda Insight, Honda CR-V Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Hyundai Tucson Hybrid, Kia Niro, Ford Escape Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid (discontinued), Chevy Volt (discontinued), Lexus hybrid models, BMW iX/i3, plus many others. Each manufacturer's hybrids use specific inverters. Identify your actual vehicle - it's not a Fiat 124 Spider.
My Modern 124 Spider has steering issues. Is this related?
NO, steering issues unrelated to power inverter/hybrid. The Modern Fiat 124 Spider (2016-2020) uses ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) which is steering assist motor and torque sensor, different from EV/hybrid drive system. EPS doesn't use power inverter - it's a localized electric motor for steering assist only. Mazda Miata ND platform (which Modern 124 inherits) uses EPS. If your Modern 124 has steering issues, look at EPS motor, torque sensor, ECU - not power inverter (which doesn't exist on this vehicle).
How is Modern 124 Spider related to Mazda Miata?
The Modern Fiat 124 Spider (2016-2020) is essentially a Mazda Miata with Fiat styling and engine. Details: (1) Built on ND-generation Mazda MX-5 platform. (2) Built at Mazda Hiroshima Japan factory. (3) Mazda chassis, suspension, electrics, transmission. (4) Mazda Miata's engine replaced with Fiat 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine. (5) Unique Fiat exterior styling. (6) Interior largely shared with Miata with Fiat trim. (7) Importantly: Mazda Miata never had factory hybrid variant in any of its 4 generations (NA/NB/NC/ND), so Modern 124 inherited pure ICE configuration. Cross-references with Mazda Miata ND of same year for most components.
What's MultiAir technology in Modern 124 engine?
MultiAir is Fiat's variable valve actuation technology developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies. Used in Fiat 1.4L MultiAir Turbo engine in Modern 124 Spider. Provides electronic-hydraulic valve control allowing optimization of valve timing and lift for different operating conditions. Result: better fuel efficiency, lower emissions, more power. Applied to Fiat 1.4L turbocharged engine producing 160 HP in Modern 124 Spider. This is PURE ICE technology, not hybrid - MultiAir doesn't make the engine a hybrid, it just makes the ICE more efficient.
I'm confused. What did I actually want to buy?
Most likely scenarios: (1) You have a HYBRID VEHICLE (not Fiat 124 Spider) needing power inverter - identify your actual vehicle from owner's manual, VIN, or registration. (2) You have a Fiat 124 Spider but need different ICE component - we can help identify what your 124 Spider actually needs (alternator, ignition coil, fuel injector, etc.). (3) You confused 'inverter' (EV term) with 'alternator' (ICE term - the conventional generator on ICE vehicles). (4) You're researching for a vehicle you don't actually own yet. Call (240) 301-0095 and we can help figure out what you actually need.
How does shipping work?
Free shipping to all 50 US states once correct vehicle and component identified. For Fiat 124 Spider ICE components: Italian vintage (Classic) or Mazda Miata cross-reference (Modern), 7-30 days depending. For actual hybrid vehicle components: depends on what vehicle you actually have. Identification call (240) 301-0095 is essential first step.
