Description

Audi RS4 Anti-Lock Brake Computer for Sale, Restore Full ABS, ESP and Stability Function

The ABS/ESP module is one of the most safety-critical electronic components on the Audi RS4. When it fails, the symptoms range from a constant ABS warning light with disabled anti-lock braking (which means full-pressure braking can cause a wheel lockup that the system would normally prevent), to wheel-specific brake imbalance from a stuck solenoid valve, to complete loss of stability control intervention during aggressive driving. On a 420 HP all-wheel-drive performance car, a working ABS/ESP module is essential.

A verified used Audi RS4 ABS computer restores OEM braking and stability function at a fraction of new dealer pricing, which is increasingly important as the B7 RS4 platform ages and new parts become harder to source. We bench-test every module before shipping, inspect housing integrity, verify hydraulic ports and connector pins.

Get your RS4 back to factory braking and stability performance with a tested ABS computer today.

Product Overview

The Audi RS4 ABS/ESP module is a combined unit that integrates the hydraulic control valve block with the electronic control module in one sealed aluminum housing. The hydraulic block contains multiple solenoid valves (typically 8 to 12) that can rapidly modulate brake fluid pressure to each wheel individually, a high-pressure pump and accumulator that build pressure when ESP intervention is needed, and integrated brake fluid passages routing to each of the four wheels.

The electronic module on top of the hydraulic block contains a microcontroller managing all functions, valve driver circuits for the solenoids, pump motor driver, and sensor input conditioning for the four wheel speed sensors, the yaw rate sensor, the steering angle sensor and the lateral acceleration sensor. Communication with the engine ECU, transmission ECU and instrument cluster is via CAN bus.

4 reviews for AUDI RS4 ANTI-LOCK BRAKE COMPUTER FOR SALE

  1. Vincent Holloway

ABS pump on my 2008 RS4 sedan died after a winter of salt exposure. Audi dealer quoted me a major bill and a 3-week wait. Vaz had a verified module in stock with bench test paperwork showing CAN response and power-on. Donor history was disclosed (mileage was reasonable). Took it to my independent Audi specialist for the install, coding and bleed, total cost was a fraction of dealer estimate. Module works perfectly, ABS warning lights cleared first try after coding. Excellent for a B7 RS4 part.

  2. Caroline Brewer

Replaced the ABS module on my 2007 RS4 Avant (rare US car). Vaz confirmed the part number cross-reference against my VIN before shipping. Module arrived clean, port threads were sharp, connector pins all looked good. Independent coding took about 90 minutes at my shop. One star off because there were minor surface scratches on the housing from prior service that they did disclose but I noticed slightly more in person than expected. Functionally everything is correct.

  3. Chris Johnson (verified owner)

I purchased the Audi RS4 Anti-Lock Brake Computer from Vaz Auto Solutions. The product is functioning adequately, but I didn’t notice a dramatic change as some others have noted. Installation went smoothly enough. It seems to do what it’s supposed to, though, so I can’t complain too much.”

  4. David Miller (verified owner)

I replaced the anti-lock brake computer on my Audi RS4 with the one I got from Vaz Auto Solutions. The difference is amazing! My ABS system is working flawlessly now, and I feel much more confident driving in wet conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will an Audi B7 A4 or S4 ABS module work in my RS4?

Mechanically yes (the hardware is largely shared across B7 A4 quattro, S4 and RS4), but the software coding is different. The RS4 module is coded with RS-specific brake balance, ESP and ASR tuning, and CAN bus partner IDs that differ from A4/S4. An A4 or S4 module installed in an RS4 will work mechanically but will not provide correct RS4 brake balance or ESP behavior until it is coded as an RS4 with VCDS or Audi VAS. For best results, source an RS4-coded module or expect to do full RS4 coding after install.

How do I install the ABS module?

Installation overview: (1) Park on level ground and apply parking brake. (2) Disconnect battery negative terminal. (3) Locate the ABS module in the engine bay, typically driver-side near the brake master cylinder. (4) Bleed off brake system pressure (press brake pedal 20-30 times with engine off). (5) Disconnect the multi-pin electrical connector. (6) Disconnect the brake fluid lines from the hydraulic ports (use line wrenches to prevent flare damage, expect some fluid leakage). (7) Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket. (8) Lift the module out. (9) Install replacement in reverse, using new copper crush washers or O-rings at all hydraulic fittings. (10) Refill brake fluid reservoir. (11) Bleed all four brake lines plus the ABS module (specific bleed procedure with scan tool may be required). (12) Code the module to VIN. (13) Verify warning lights clear. Total time 2 to 4 hours.

How much does coding cost at a shop?

Most independent Audi specialists in the US charge $100 to $250 for ABS module coding including the diagnostic time to confirm everything. The procedure involves connecting VCDS (VAG-COM) or Audi VAS scan tool, reading the existing vehicle configuration, writing it into the new module, verifying CAN bus communication, and clearing fault codes. Some shops include the scan tool guided ABS bleed procedure in the same visit which can save labor versus a separate visit.

My ABS light is on. Could it be something else besides the module?

Yes, several other things can cause ABS warning lights: failed wheel speed sensor (most common, single wheel circuit fault), bad wheel speed sensor harness (broken wire near the suspension), low brake fluid level, worn brake pads triggering brake wear sensor, brake fluid contamination (moisture-saturated fluid affects pressure modulation), failed yaw rate or steering angle sensor. Always diagnose with a scan tool before assuming ABS module failure. The module is the most expensive component in the ABS system and should only be replaced after other lower-cost causes are ruled out.

Can I tune or modify the ABS module software?

Aftermarket ABS module tuning is not common for RS4 platforms. The factory RS-specific calibration is already aggressive for the application, and modifications to ABS or ESP thresholds can compromise safety. Some track day enthusiasts have explored ESP defeat or threshold modification but the standard approach is to use the factory Sport mode (which raises ESP intervention thresholds) rather than tuning the module software. We do not provide modified or tuned modules.

What is the difference between ABS, ESP, ASR and EBD?

All four are managed by the same module but have different functions. (1) ABS (anti-lock braking) prevents wheel lockup during hard braking by modulating brake pressure individually at each wheel. (2) ESP (electronic stability program) detects under/oversteer using yaw rate sensor and applies brake at specific wheels plus engine intervention to keep the car on its intended path. (3) ASR (anti-slip regulation, or traction control) detects wheel spin under acceleration and applies brake at the spinning wheel plus engine intervention to limit spin. (4) EBD (electronic brake distribution) varies brake bias between front and rear axles based on vehicle load and dynamic conditions for optimal stopping. The RS4 module manages all four through the same hydraulic block and solenoid valve set.

How rare is the B7 RS4 in the US market?

Approximately 1,750 RS4 B7 units were sold in the US across the 2006 to 2008 production run (about 1,200 sedan, 200 Avant, 350 Cabriolet). This is a low-volume model. As an RS4 owner you are in a small community of US enthusiasts. Parts availability at Audi dealers for the B7 RS4 specifically is increasingly limited as the platform ages, which is why verified used parts are an important sourcing option. Avants and Cabriolets are particularly rare in the US.

How does shipping work?

Free shipping to all 50 US states. The ABS module weighs 4 to 6 lbs and ships in a padded box via UPS or FedEx Ground with signature confirmation. Typical transit is 3 to 7 business days from order confirmation. Hydraulic ports are capped to prevent fluid leakage in transit, and the connector is wrapped to prevent pin damage.
