The retractable cargo cover is one of the small details that defines a luxury SUV cabin. When it works smoothly, it hides cargo from outside view, gives the rear cargo area a clean horizontal line, and pulls back instantly when you load groceries or luggage. When the retractor spring weakens, the fabric tears, or a mounting bracket breaks, the cover stops working and the cabin loses both a privacy feature and a piece of its factory finish. On the BMW ActiveHybrid X6 with its sloping coupe-style rear roofline, the cargo area is in plain view from outside the vehicle, making the cargo cover especially valuable.
A verified used BMW Active cargo cover restores OEM privacy and finish at a price well below new dealer parts, which are increasingly difficult to source for the low-volume ActiveHybrid X6 platform. We test every retractor spring on the bench, inspect the fabric for tears and fading, and verify the housing integrity and mounting brackets before shipping.

The BMW Active cargo cover is a retractable parcel shelf assembly that mounts behind the rear seats of the ActiveHybrid X6. The housing is reinforced plastic, the pull cover is woven polyester or vinyl, and a spring-loaded retractor mechanism inside the housing returns the cover to the stowed position when released. Side mounting brackets engage OEM recesses in the cargo side trim panels, and quick-release tabs allow the entire cover to be lifted out in seconds.
When the cover is extended, it provides a horizontal line across the cargo area, hiding the contents below from view through the side windows and the rear glass. When the cover is retracted, it stows compactly against the rear of the back seats, leaving full cargo height available for tall loads.
The BMW ActiveHybrid X6 was BMW's first two-mode full hybrid SUV in the US market, produced only for the 2010 and 2011 model years. The two-mode hybrid system was developed in cooperation with General Motors and Daimler, and was also used in the Cadillac Escalade Hybrid and Mercedes ML450 Hybrid of the same era.
The two-mode hybrid system was technically impressive but expensive to produce, and the fuel economy gain (about 17 mpg combined versus 15 mpg for the non-hybrid X6 xDrive50i) was modest. BMW phased out the ActiveHybrid X6 after 2011 in favor of the ActiveHybrid 7 sedan and later mild hybrid systems. As a result, the ActiveHybrid X6 is rare today and many parts including interior trim are no longer stocked new at BMW dealers, increasing the value of verified used parts.
The X6 is a coupe-style SUV with a sloping rear roofline, which gives it a distinctive sport profile but also means the cargo area is in plain view from outside the vehicle, both through the rear glass and through the side cargo windows. A working cargo cover is more important on the X6 than on a typical SUV with a square rear because the privacy that a regular SUV gets from a higher cargo floor and smaller side windows is not available on the X6.
Our team works with discontinued BMW hybrid platforms regularly including the ActiveHybrid X6, ActiveHybrid 7, ActiveHybrid 5 and ActiveHybrid 3. Call (240) 301-0095 with your VIN and we will confirm the factory interior color code on your vehicle so the cargo cover matches before it ships.
