About the Ford Ranger Front Seat

STRONG GSC demand for Ford Ranger family (URL position 25.5, massive 2.3L engine query demand). Ford Ranger has had TWO distinct US production runs: First US Run 1983-2011 (compact pickup, three generations, Mazda B-Series sibling) and Second US Run 2019+ (mid-size T6 global platform).

Different vehicles share the ‘Ranger’ name but have different body sizes, seat designs, cab configurations. CRITICAL: customer must specify production run and generation at order.

Multiple cab configurations (Regular, SuperCab, SuperCrew), multiple seat types (bench, bucket, captain, sport), various trim levels with premium features (leather, heated, power) on higher trims. Cross-reference Mazda B-Series for 1st US run (sibling 1983-2009).

  1. Maximus Whitfield-Carruthers

Replaced driver-side bucket seat on my 2005 Ford Ranger XLT SuperCab (1st US Run 3rd gen with 4.0L SOHC V6) after the original developed severe upholstery wear at 165k miles. Vaz confirmed 3rd gen 1st US Run and XLT trim specifically. Sourced a tested bucket seat from a 2006 Mazda B3000 SE donor (cross-reference within sibling platform – significantly cheaper than direct Ranger donor). Frame integrity verified, upholstery clean, mechanisms function smoothly. Installed in 45 minutes. Ranger inter

  2. Genevieve Petrochenko-Stryker

Bought passenger-side captain chair for my 2022 Ford Ranger Lariat SuperCrew (2nd US Run T6 platform with 2.3L EcoBoost). Vaz emphasized the 2nd US Run is essentially different vehicle from 1st US Run despite same name. Sourced from a 2021 Ranger Lariat SuperCrew donor. Heated function tested working. One star off because color match was slightly off from my interior (medium tan vs my medium gray) – had to swap covers from my old seat. The production run distinction was critical – I almost bough

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a 2008 Ford Ranger. Will a 2020 Ranger seat fit?

NO. The 2008 Ford Ranger is 1st US Run 3rd generation (compact pickup, Mazda B-Series sibling). The 2020 Ford Ranger is 2nd US Run T6 platform (mid-size pickup). These are essentially different vehicles despite sharing the ‘Ranger’ name. The cabins are different sizes, the seat frames mount differently, the electrical configurations differ. NOT interchangeable between production runs. You need a 1st run-specific seat for your 2008.

I have a Mazda B3000. Will this Ford Ranger seat fit?

Likely yes for cross-reference. The Mazda B-Series pickup (B3000) was the Ford Ranger sibling 1983-2009 in US market. They shared the same platform with Mazda using Ford-sourced powertrain components. Many parts including some seats cross-reference between Ranger and B-Series of same year. Specify your B-Series year and configuration at order. This significantly expands sourcing for 1st US run Ranger and B-Series owners.

Why did Ford discontinue the Ranger in 2011?

Ford’s strategic refocus on F-150 and larger trucks. The compact pickup market had declined as buyers shifted to mid-size and full-size trucks. Ford decided to consolidate on F-150 for US market while continuing Ranger internationally on the new T6 platform from 2011 onwards. The Ranger left US for 8 years before returning in 2019 with the T6 mid-size variant. Demand for the original compact Ranger remained strong in used market – reflected in the massive GSC demand we see.

What's different between the 2019+ Ranger and the original?

Different vehicles essentially. The 2019+ Ranger (T6 platform) is significantly LARGER than the original – now mid-size class competing with Tacoma, Colorado, Frontier, Canyon. The original Ranger 1983-2011 was compact/subcompact class. Different engines (2.3L EcoBoost Turbo and 2.7L EcoBoost V6 vs original 2.0/2.3/2.8/2.9/3.0/4.0L). Different cab configurations available. Different platform architecture. The new Ranger shares only the nameplate with the original.

My Ranger has captain chairs. What trim has that?

Higher trim levels typically. Original Ranger captain chairs appeared on: STX, FX4 Sport, FX4 Off-Road, Limited variants depending on year. Modern Ranger (2019+) captain chairs/bucket configurations appear on: Lariat, Limited, Wildtrak, Raptor trim levels. Specify trim level at order so we can match the correct seat configuration. Some Crew Cab configurations had captain chairs as standard.

How do I install the front seat?

Easy to moderate, 30-60 minutes per seat: (1) Disconnect battery negative for safety. (2) Slide seat fully back, remove front mounting bolts (typically 2). (3) Slide seat fully forward, remove rear mounting bolts (typically 2). (4) Disconnect any electrical connectors (heated seats, power adjust, seat belt sensor). (5) Lift out seat (careful, can be heavy 30-80 lbs). (6) Install new seat in reverse. (7) Reconnect electrical connectors. (8) Torque all mounting bolts to Ford specifications (critical for safety belt attachment). (9) Reconnect battery and test all functions.

Is the Mazda B-Series cross-reference one-way or both?

Both directions, with year alignment. The Ford Ranger and Mazda B-Series shared platform 1983-2009 (Mazda exited US market 2009, Ford continued Ranger through 2011). Within their shared production years, components cross-reference both directions: Ranger to B-Series and B-Series to Ranger. Specify your vehicle (Ranger or B-Series) at order so we can identify the correct donor.

How does shipping work for seats?

Free shipping to all 50 US states. Seat weighs 30-80 lbs depending on configuration in protective packaging. Smaller seats ship via UPS or FedEx Ground; larger or heavier seats may ship freight. Typical transit 5-10 business days. Upholstery protected with bubble wrap, seat support included to prevent compression damage.
