How do I install a steering wheel safely?
CRITICAL SAFETY PROCEDURE involving airbag. Should be done by professional unless very experienced: (1) Disconnect battery negative cable and wait 10+ minutes for SRS capacitor discharge. (2) Lock steering wheel straight. (3) Remove airbag carefully (typically retained by spring clips or torx screws on backside of wheel). (4) Disconnect airbag electrical connector. (5) Disconnect horn and control switch electrical connectors. (6) Remove center steering wheel retention bolt. (7) Use steering wheel puller to remove wheel from shaft (do NOT hammer or pry). (8) Install new wheel in reverse with correct torque on retention bolt. (9) Reconnect all electrical connectors carefully. (10) Reinstall airbag with proper retention. (11) Reconnect battery and verify SRS light cycles correctly (illuminates briefly then extinguishes). If SRS light stays on, scan tool diagnosis needed.
