The Nissan Armada is Nissan's full size body on frame SUV, introduced for the 2004 model year as the 'Nissan Pathfinder Armada' (the Pathfinder name was dropped from 2005 onwards). Built on the F Alpha platform that it shares with the Nissan Titan pickup, the first generation Armada (TA60 chassis code) was produced from 2004 to 2015 with the 5.6L VK56 V8 engine. The second generation Armada (Y62 platform, 2017 onwards) is based on the global Nissan Patrol Y62 and is a completely different vehicle. The tailgate on a 1st gen Armada is the rear panel assembly that pivots up to grant access to the cargo area. It houses the rear glass, rear wiper motor, rear defogger grid, third brake light (on some trims), license plate light, and rear door handle and lock.
