The Toyota 1GR-FE is a 4.0 liter naturally-aspirated V6 with an aluminum block, DOHC heads, and VVT-i (Dual VVT-i on later units). It is known for durability and steady torque, which is why it powered a long run of Toyota trucks and SUVs.
Please note a correction. The live spec sheet on this listing lists a 3.0L inline-6, twin-turbo, 382 hp engine. That is not the 1GR-FE. The real 1GR-FE is a naturally-aspirated 4.0L V6 making roughly 236 to 285 hp and 266 to 278 lb-ft depending on the year, on regular unleaded. We have corrected the specs here.
Output changed over the production run, mostly with the move from VVT-i to Dual VVT-i. Confirm your year and application by VIN so you receive the correct generation for your truck.

This engine is the Toyota 1GR-FE 4.0L V6. The vehicle list below reflects the real 1GR-FE; the US-market applications are noted separately.
| Vehicle | Compatibility |
|---|---|
| US-market | 4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, Tundra (base V6) |
| Also fitted (non-US) | Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux, Fortuner, Hiace |
| Confirm | Year and VVT-i generation by VIN |
The 1GR-FE was fitted to the 4Runner, Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, and Tundra base V6 in the US, and to the Land Cruiser Prado, Hilux, Fortuner, and Hiace in other markets. Because output and the VVT-i generation changed over the years, confirm your exact year and application by VIN before you order.
Not sure which 1GR-FE generation your truck needs? Call (240) 301-0095 or email support@vazautosolutions.com with your VIN and year. We will confirm the correct generation (VVT-i versus Dual VVT-i), what is included, and current availability.
Quality control for this part includes:
All cylinders compression or leak-down tested; results available before you pay
VVT-i system and cam timing inspected
Oil and coolant checked for cross-contamination
Valve train and timing chain inspected
Mileage and donor application documented where known
Because this is a used engine, we compression test the cylinders, inspect the VVT-i system and timing, and check the oil and coolant for contamination, documenting mileage and donor history where known. Request results before purchase.
