About This Transmission

The Ford DPS6, marketed by Ford as PowerShift and engineered as the 6DCT250, is a 6 speed dry dual-clutch automatic transmission used in the Ford Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, and select Fusion trims from 2010 through 2019. Unlike a traditional torque-converter automatic, the DPS6 uses two dry clutches and a Transmission Control Module to deliver shifts that are quicker than a hydraulic automatic and more fuel-efficient at the same time. Inside the case, two clutch packs alternate engagement as the gearbox swaps between odd and even gear pairs.

This setup gives the DPS6 PowerShift its signature feel: brisk acceleration off the line, manual-like efficiency on the highway, and lower fuel consumption than a comparable conventional automatic. For Fiesta and Focus owners replacing a worn or coded-out unit, a clean used DPS6 is a far better value than rebuilding the original.
