About the Daihatsu Charade Intake Manifold

Daihatsu Charade had BRIEF US market: 1988-1992 only (4 years), then Daihatsu WITHDREW from US market entirely and has NOT returned. Globally Charade produced 1977-2000 across 4 generations but US market was limited to G100/G102 (3rd gen) 1988-1992. Daihatsu = Toyota subsidiary since 1998 majority/2016 full.

US-spec engines: 1.0L CB-series 3-cyl (~50 HP, base, fuel economy focus, iconic CB engine), 1.3L HC-series 4-cyl (later US years, higher-performance). US body styles: 3-door hatchback (most common), 4-door sedan.

Intake manifold = engine air distribution component. Delivers air to cylinders through runners, houses injectors and sensors. Vintage parts sourcing 14-30 days, may require international sources from countries where Charade continued through 2000. We inspect for cracks, gasket surfaces, runner integrity.

Why did Daihatsu leave the US market in 1992?
Multiple factors: (1) Limited sales success vs larger Japanese brands - Daihatsu was small player against Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsuboshi who had broader product lines and stronger dealer networks. (2) Yen exchange rate pressures - the strong yen vs dollar in early 1990s made small affordable Japanese cars expensive to import and unprofitable. (3) Limited product range - Daihatsu offered only Charade and Rocky in US (vs Toyota's full lineup), not enough to sustain US dealer network. (4) Higher US safety/emissions standards required investment in compliance for small sales volumes. Daihatsu chose to focus on Japan and emerging markets rather than continue US presence. Has not returned since.
