The VR38DETT is the heart of the Nissan GT-R R35 and one of the most respected production V6 engines of the 21st century. Hand assembled by Nissan's elite Takumi engine masters in a climate controlled cleanroom in Yokohama, every VR38DETT is a precision built unit that combines extreme power potential with daily driver reliability. The engine is a 3.8 liter (3,799 cc) DOHC 24-valve twin turbocharged V6 with a cast aluminum block, plasma sprayed cylinder bores (no cast iron sleeves, resulting in lighter weight and better heat transfer), forged pistons, forged connecting rods, and a forged crankshaft. The twin IHI turbochargers are integrated directly into the exhaust manifolds for better spool response and more compact packaging. An integrated air to liquid intercooler system maintains intake air temperature under boost conditions.
Before you order, please be aware that the VR38DETT was produced from 2007 (Japan launch) through 2024 with significant power increases over the years. The live page lists a 2007 donor year with 565 hp output, but those two specs do not historically match. Here is the actual R35 power history:
If the engine truly produces 565 hp (verified via dyno or factory documentation), the donor is most likely a 2014 or later model year, not 2007. Please call (240) 301-0095 before ordering and we will provide the actual donor year, mileage, and history for the specific unit you are buying.
The GT-R R35 has an unusual drivetrain layout for engine swap projects. The engine sits at the front of the vehicle, but the transmission (GR6 6-speed dual clutch transaxle, designed by BorgWarner with Nissan) sits at the REAR of the vehicle, connected to the engine via a long carbon fiber driveshaft. This is done for weight balance (the heaviest components are split front and rear). The GR6 transaxle is sold separately and is NOT included with this engine sale. If you are doing a full GT-R engine swap, you will need both:
