About the BMW N57 Engine
The BMW N57 is a 3.0 liter turbodiesel inline-6 and the successor to the M57. It was built in single-turbo, twin-turbo, and tri-turbo (N57S) forms, with power ranging from about 231 hp to about 313 hp depending on the variant. It uses a DPF and an SCR/DEF (AdBlue) after-treatment system.
In the US, BMW offered only a few N57 diesels, mainly the 535d and the X5 xDrive35d around 2014 to 2016, plus the 740Ld xDrive. Most N57 applications were non-US, and the earlier US diesels (such as the 335d and the X5 35d) used the M57. Confirm the variant and after-treatment for your car and your state’s rules.
